Last night near the wealthy enclave of Hancock Park, Angeleno Greg Simkins “Craola” held court for the showing of his work at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery. Entitled “Stop Haunting Me” his works reveal the role played by classic cartoons, such as Mickey Mouse and Warner Bros. and the impact it’s had on his career which has spanned two decades and somehow he manages to stay down to earth while completing commissions from the likes of actors, actresses and rock stars like Linkin Park.
His material is bold and clean, rather than focus on the big picture, “Craola” sets his sights on the details, fleshing out the canvas as his drawing dictates the flow of the piece he’s working on. Having first appeared on the underground streetart scene when he was 18, he’s been able to get placements at major museums as well appear for various collabs with his peers. Be sure to stop by the gallery between April 6th – May 4th to peep out the new art.
